There is nothing like the taste of home-grown fruits and veggies. We get an overall sense of accomplishment every time we bring something in from the garden and prepare it for a meal or storage.
Although our winters in Texas were not very harsh, we still couldn’t grow everything year-round so we began looking into using greenhouses and hydroponics or aquaponics to be more self-sufficient. Then we moved to Maine and everything changed. We have a small greenhouse to extend the growing season and hydroponics didn’t work very well because the water stays so cold. More experimentation is needed so in the meantime we’re back to using soil in totes until we can figure out if hydroponics is going to work here.
